Rancho Milagro Recovery follow strict federal and state privacy regulations and internal policies to ensure a safe and structured recovery environment that adheres to every patient’s rights and confidentiality.

Each patient will receive a Bill of Rights upon admission that underscores engagement in treatment, safety, confidentiality and other considerations during their substance abuse treatment at Rancho Milagro Recovery.

Patient Confidentiality

To protect your rights and responsibilities as a patient undergoing substance abuse treatment, Rancho Milagro Recovery is compliant with:

• HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)
• 42 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) Part 2 regulations
• JCAHO (The Joint Commission)

Upon admission, each patient will review release forms that describe patient and facility responsibilities and provide Rancho Milagro Recovery with informed consent to provide your clinical and medical treatment. Your Admission Specialist will answer any questions you may have.

We have a long-standing commitment to the practice of 12-Step anonymity. Therefore, we ask that all families respect the privacy of patients and others. Rancho Milagro Recovery will not disclose information about any individual or agency without your written consent except in legal circumstances, medical emergencies or other situations as noted below.

Use of Information During Treatment

Rancho Milagro Recovery confidentiality forms outline circumstances in which we may use your health information.
Your individual care and health information is shared confidentially among the Rancho Milagro Recovery multidisciplinary treatment team for the purposes of therapeutic diagnosis, development and facilitation of your treatment plan, and evaluation of effectiveness and quality of services.

There are certain circumstances in which it is necessary to share health information:

• With medical personnel in cases of medical emergencies
• With an authorized representative guardian
• Through court order
• Protected information may be shared with health oversight agencies which determine accreditation or licensure

Patient Bill of Rights

As a patient, I have a right:

• Not to tolerate any unlawful discrimination and to be treated with dignity and respect.
• To a safe and secure environment during my stay at Rancho Milagro Recovery.
• To ask questions in order to give informed consent before the start of any procedure and/or treatment. This includes a language interpreter, if necessary.
• To appeal involuntary termination of treatment.
• To be informed regarding the risk, side effects and benefits of all medications and treatment/procedures used.
• To voice opinions, recommendations and grievances in relation to policies and services offered by the facility without fear of reprisal.
• To have all personal and medical information pertaining to treatment to be treated as strictly confidential. Information regarding these sources will require my prior consent in order to be released except in an emergency, or as allowed by law.
• To privacy in my treatment. This includes the right to refuse to see visitors.
• To participate in the development of my treatment plan, continuing care planning and to be informed of any changes that would alter or affect completion of treatment.
• To choose to participate or refuse to participate in any research projects and understand that no treatment will be withheld as a result. I also have the right to refuse to perform any service for the facility, or for other patients, unless this is part of my therapeutic plan.
• To participate in the actives of social, religious and community groups of my choice unless my treatment team considers such activities detrimental to my welfare.
• To review submitted grievances according to established procedures.
